Learn more atPosition Summary:The Sr. Director will be responsible for all spend for J&J Innovative Medicine (IM) Supply Chain for External Manufacturing across the Large Molecule and Small Molecule Drug Substance and Drug Product Platforms incl. 3PL Warehousing. The spend is significant (> 1bn USD) and medium to high complex. It requires strong engagement and close collaboration with key stakeholders within the business, across Supply Chain, Procurement, Quality, Finance, and other segment/functional leadership teams. We are looking for an experienced leader who will identify, develop and implement the J&J IM External Manufacturing strategy as well as deliver against J&J IM targets for financial performance, quality, service, compliance and growth.This role will lead a team of Sourcing professionals and will provide global direction for developing end-to-end category leadership such as category strategy development, maintaining key relationships within the business and managing key supplier relationships globally. The position must shape, connect and lead resources to deliver on key projects.This role will work closely with J&J IM Partnerships and External Supply (PES) Operations Organisation to manage J&J IM Third Party Manufacturing suppliers E2E driving ownership of the commercial relationships within our EM network and represent Procurement on the PES Leadership Team. The selected candidate will also collaborate closely with Supply Chain to develop network strategy that includes the network of our existing and potential future external manufacturing partnerships that will drive capacity, value and innovation.Selected candidate will also work closely with Enterprise Procurement to collaborate on delivery of numerous J&J corporate Initiatives including Supplier Diversity, Innovation and Corporate Citizenship.Responsibilities include:
- Support the J&J IM Vision: Creating a future where disease is a thing of the past.
- Identify, develop, and direct the implementation of J&J Innovative Medicine’s goals and category strategies, based on deep subject matter expertise and a profound understanding of industry/market dynamics.
- Lead the development of category strategies and implementation plans that will effectively meet the long-range requirements of IM and deliver the maximum value for J&J.
- Understand long-range requirements of business partners and engage in strategic planning and partnering to ensure supply and reduce any risks.
- Work directly with CEOs and other supplier leadership to assure alignment of J&J objectives, including quality, service, reliability, innovation, and cost.
- Drive and develop deep supplier relationships with strategic partners.
- Identification and assessment of key stakeholders critical to unlocking value in this category.
- Identify & drive solutions for unmet business needs and challenges through supplier-enabled innovation.
- Drive business support of the Sustainable Procurement Program and the Supplier Diversity program.
- Drive innovative and sustainable cost-competitive solutions for base business, new products, and licensed partners.
- Inspire and influence the team to ‘unconstrained’ and bold thinking on how to make a step change in value creation.
- Challenges status quo and is creative and experimental in approaching business challenges.
- Apply data insights and analytics to drive decision-making and performance.
- Understand operational considerations and identify business demand requirements while partnering with business collaborators to deliver annual value improvements and drive competitive advantage.

- Escalate issues that may impact the J&J Innovative Medicine Supply Chain.
- Drive strong project management capabilities with the team using project charters, value/ROI targets, timing, risks/mitigation, and milestones.
- Cultivate a culture of high performance within the teams and with suppliers.
- Lead and inspire a team, demonstrating strong credo values and applying solid resource allocation skills in leading the team.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree required; advanced business degree (MSc, MBA) preferred.
- 12+ years of relevant experience.
- Multi-country, multi-sector experience preferred.
- Exceptional verbal and written communication; ability to simplify complexity.
- Strong business acumen with expertise in procurement, spend/category/supplier management, and contracting (regulatory, legal, compliance, commercial).
- High proficiency in core procurement skills, including supplier management, supply market analysis, category management, and procurement excellence.
- Strong project/change management skills.
- Skilled in prioritization, problem-solving, and continuous improvement.
- Demonstrated flexibility and adaptability to external changes, ensuring smooth organizational transitions.

- Competitive, externally oriented, and proactive in driving innovation.
- Proven ability to deliver step-function performance, develop strategic visions, and manage reasonable risk.
