The ultimate result of this consultancy is the enhancement of the visibility of UNEP’s Green Economy activities, and ensure that they are reaching their intended target audience(s), which will contribute to enhanced impact and efficacy of ETPU’s work. This includes successfully planning, coordinating, and executing events at national, regional, and global levels in 2025. The consultancy will result in well-structured and strategically aligned communication efforts that increase awareness of economic and financial transformation for sustainability. By delivering strategic counsel, engaging agendas, and effective participant engagement strategies, the consultancy will ensure these events resonate with and impact target audiences.Work LocationRemoteExpected duration6 monthsDuties and ResponsibilitiesThe United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) aims to promote sustainable development globally. Within this framework, UNEP’s Industry and Economy Division, specifically the Resources and Markets Branch in Geneva, manages initiatives like the Green Economy Initiative (GEI) and the Partnership for Action on Green Economy (PAGE), and the Trade, Development, and the Environment Hub (TRADE Hub). These initiatives focus on integrating environmental considerations into economic and trade policies and assisting countries in adopting green economy policies. To support these efforts, UNEP requires the expertise of a consultant or individual contractor. The consultant/contractor will contribute to the successful execution of the following key areas within UNEP’s work programme. The consultant will contribute to research dissemination, awareness-raising, and capacity-building activities related to ETPU. Additionally, the consultant will facilitate the creation of platforms and partnerships for discussions and the delivery of policy-relevant outcomes and solutions. Main responsibilities Communications strategy and planning •Develop, manage and implement multistakeholder communications strategies for the Economic and Trade Policy Unit (ETPU) – in partnership with programme teams. •Lead on the development of various strategic communications products such as narratives, global campaigns, messaging, talking points, and blogs as required by the team. •Prepare and manage an editorial calendar for the Unit to plan, create and disseminate content to increase the visibility of green economy activities and showcase achievements and positive stories from the ETPU. •Ensure proper integration of communications work with the larger UNEP communications strategy, comply with rules and requirements set by the communications division •Build and manage relationships with the internal UNEP teams to manage ETPU’s brand, and digital infrastructure including website, social media channels, email marketing platform and other communications platforms. •Baseline and demonstrate progress of the communications workstream through outcome focussed metrics and data, through regular evaluation reports. Partner Communications and events support •Help manage relevant communications on events for ETPU and its programmatic workstreams. •Develop content (key messages, videos, speeches, blogs, articles, media releases, external reports and business updates) in line with the UNEP’s Global Communications strategy, and other communications tools to promote the efforts of ETPU and its teams to its target audiences. •Coordinate with programme team and the UNEP communications division to leverage communications opportunities. •Contribute to responding to media enquiries and to relevant press releases, under guidance of the UNEP’s News and Media team. Global Campaign work and marketing materials •Raise awareness of ETPU, its work achievement among key stakeholders and audience by various communications engagements such as Monthly Newsletter and other communications products. •Deliver effective campaigns (for the agricultural subsidies communications campaign) based on the core objectives of the Agricultural subsidies work and priorities, with audience insights at the centre. •Curate the online channels for ETPU (LinkedIn, Twitter, Website etc.) and create opportunities for the broader community’s engagement. Ensure a strong, accurate and current digital presence of the Unit while using media analytics and monitoring tools to position and target ETPU through activities to desired effect. •Baseline and demonstrate communication progress through outcome-focused metrics and data through regular evaluation reports. (Social media reports, campaign outcome reports etc.) •Ensure high quality and efficient delivery with interns and collaborating teams.Qualifications/special skillsA master’s degree in international relations, communication, journalism, or a similar discipline -Minimum of 5 years of work experience in journalism, communication, and global outreach is required -Experience writing professional articles on topics related to economics, trade, environment, and development issues is required -Experience in organizing high-level events and international conferences -Experience in creating content for digital communication, inclduing managing social media accounts. -Ability to synthesize information in a clear and well-structured manner. -Flexible team player with proven coordination and excellent organizational skills. -Ability to work and deliver under pressure and handle multiple activities concurrently. -Experience with UN system and/or international organizations is desired.LanguagesExcellent proven communication and writing skills in English are required.
