Job Description

Responsibilities and AccountabilitiesResponsible for managing and delivering global patent and related intellectual property strategies and support for portion of CSL Group’s global activities, especially relevant to R&D, a TA, PD or a Platform sub-teamManaging prosecution and defence of CSL intellectual property, including building and safeguarding of a patent portfolio tailored to CSL’s R&D activities with respect to pending applications and granted patents taking into account national and international laws and guidelinesProvides counsel and advice to management and R&D organization to actively manage global patent related risksContributing to delivery enterprise-wide IP strategy that supports and safeguards CSL’s Global R&D activities , including invention harvesting, optimising and defending regulatory exclusivities and lifecycle management activities, and partnering with TA, Research or PD leadership to come up with life cycle management initiatives with high impact on CSLContributing to identification and preservation of Trade Secrets and in conjunction with IP team, ensuring trade secrets are well protected within global IP strategy alongside other IP rightsAbility to actively contribute within a matrix work model, including contributing to cross-functional teams to deliver IP strategy and adviceActively manage identification and protection of inventions through filing and securing of patent rights across elected countries including contributing to capturing and building robust IP positions for CSL’s lead drug product candidatesProviding freedom to operate analysis across elected countries for assigned portfolio related risks, developing risk mitigation strategies and options and communicating to management and stakeholdersSupporting TAs/Research/PD groups to perform due diligences and advise of deal opportunities. Contributing to negotiation of agreements involving patent and related intellectual property matters; such as, confidential disclosures, material transfer, licensing agreements and other related mattersActively contributing to development of and delivering education sessions to business partners on aspects of IP across the CSL enterpriseRepresenting CSL Group directly or in cooperation with external attorneysOther complex tasks within the Intellectual Property function as assigned, including contributing to budget managementKey Relationships (internal and external):IP team, including Head of IP and IP Leadership TeamR&D and enterprise leadership, where requiredProduct / Platform Strategy Teams, where requiredGlobal Product or Platform LeadersR&D Delivery TeamsStrategy / Global Licensing, where requiredEducationBachelor’s degree in life sciences discipline (chemistry, biochemistry, biotechnology) or a related fieldMaster’s degree or PhD highly regardedQualified Patent Attorney or IP lawyer admitted to practice in at least one jurisdiction (AU, EP, DE, UK, US preferred) or equivalent legal qualifications and experience in Intellectual PropertyExperienceAt least 4-8 years post-qualification experience in Intellectual PropertyExperience with life science technologies and operations of in-house IP teamsPatent management experience in an R&D drug development environment preferredExperience with agreements involving patent and related intellectual property matters.Strong communication and negotiation skillsOur BenefitsWe encourage you to make your well-being a priority.
